Garden of Giants
Project Overview
Garden of Giants
HC Dinosaur designed and installed 20 animatronic dinosaurs for a botanical garden in Dubai, creating the Garden of Giants attraction among exotic palms, water features, and seasonal flower displays. The collection includes a 14-meter Apatosaurus, a roaring Spinosaurus, and family groups of smaller species arranged along shaded walkways with integrated mist-cooling zones. Units were specified for the harshest operating environment in this portfolio: extreme desert heat, blowing sand, and low humidity. HC Dinosaur supplied thermally managed enclosures, sand-sealed joints, UV-stabilized finishes, and a remote monitoring system that alerts the maintenance team to temperature or motion faults. Nighttime lighting and timed behavior programs create a second experience after dark, extending the garden's operating hours. Visitor flow was designed so each species reveal follows a shaded seating area with drinking-water stations, supporting long stays even in peak summer months. The attraction has been credited with significantly increasing the garden's evening ticket sales since its first season.
Engineering Behind the Build
Challenges & Solutions
Summer temperatures in Dubai regularly exceed 50 degrees Celsius, which quickly overheats standard motors and electronics. HC Dinosaur engineered a desert-spec package with heat-reflective skins, shaded enclosure designs, and labyrinth seals on every moving joint to prevent sand intrusion. Water features and irrigation created additional humidity pockets, so all electrical terminations were rated for wet locations. Units run on reduced daytime cycles during peak summer and full programming in cooler months, preserving component life without reducing the visitor experience.
