Jurassic Science Center
Project Overview
Jurassic Science Center
HC Dinosaur delivered 19 animatronic dinosaurs for the Jurassic Science Center, a permanent exhibition at a science museum in Florida. The centerpiece is a full-size Tyrannosaurus rex that roars and lunges on a timed show cycle, joined by a Triceratops, a Pteranodon suspended from the ceiling, and a range of smaller species in hands-on learning bays. Units are integrated with digital screens, real fossil specimens, and educator-led programming, creating a science-first experience designed for school groups and families. HC Dinosaur provided the complete exhibit infrastructure: structural supports, fire-rated materials, accessible control systems, and a remote monitoring service. The project was delivered on a fixed schedule aligned with the museum's grant funding milestones and opened with a week-long education festival. The science center also commissioned a companion augmented-reality layer, so visitors can point their phones at each animatronic to see skeletal overlays and scientific fact cards. Teacher preview nights and a dedicated homeschool program were launched alongside the exhibit's public opening.
Engineering Behind the Build
Challenges & Solutions
Florida's climate — high humidity, intense sun, and seasonal hurricane risk — influenced every design decision, even for a primarily indoor installation. All exterior-facing components were weather-hardened and hurricane-rated, while indoor units were built with humidity-resistant electronics and mold-resistant materials. The museum's heavy school-group traffic demanded industrial durability and fast service access, so critical modules were designed for swap-out during operating hours. Commissioning included stress testing at full visitor capacity, and the exhibit has maintained high availability since opening.
